In 2011 the self styled Wideboyz Tom Randall and Pete Whittaker travelled to America to climb the world’s hardest offwidths. Touring through Wyoming and Utah their exploits culminated in the first ascent of ‘Century Crack’, the world’s hardest offwidth. Here they talk to Richie Patterson of Wild Country about their historic trip.
Great video, thanks. It clearly shows what Pete and Tom are made of. Britain was the original modern source of pure hard rock climbing long ago and renews this tradition today with these two vigorous, friendly yet technically savage partners visiting their great skills upon America’s peculiar arcane trove of wide cracks—a specialty in climbing that all but a few worldwide successfully and quietlly ignore. What a triumph for all of climbing and for those two specifically. They practically sparkle with all that is best in our art. Tom and Pete have our greatest respect and we thrill from their drive and curiosity!
